As mentioned in Episode 3 of our podcast we compiled a list of items that we think are useful and useless for helping with the upbringing of your baby. We have provided images of some items but there are other makes available.

Prep Machine – dispenses an initial ‘hot shot’ of water that kills any bacteria that may be present in the formula. The initial burst of hot water also helps to dissolve the formula quickly and easily.

This saves a large amount of time, especially in the middle of the night, when you need to make a bottle. All you need to do is hit a button, wait for 2 minutes, then you will have a perfectly heated bottle ready to use. No more dripping milk onto your wrist and then having to adjust the temperature until it’s just right.

White Noise Machine – create a comfortable, womb-like environment that calms anxious infants, encouraging them to stop crying and fall asleep faster. White-noise machines also help babies stay asleep longer.

We would suggest testing white noise via a smart phone first to make sure your baby likes it. If they do, white noise is an amazing way to relax your baby and make sure they have a great sleep.

Steriliser Bags – quick clean microwave bags are a handy way to sanitise bottles, dummies, pumping equipment and breastfeeding accessories quickly and safely.

These bags are going to be a must when packing a bag to go away or when your baby is going off to a sleepover at your parents. You are able to fill the bags with everything that needs sterilising, add water, then microwave for 3 minutes. Quick, easy and effective.

Room & Bath Thermometer – provides fast and accurate temperature measurement to help keep baby comfortable during bath and sleep time. For baby, the optimal room temperature is approximately 18C while the optimal temperature for baby’s bath is at body temperature, between 36.5C and 38C.

Baby Translation Apps –  a tool that recognises and translates your baby cries into understandable language, and it teaches you how to master this skill yourself.

We do not believe that this is at all useful. As parents, you will start to learn what you baby needs and when. These apps can be pricey and inaccurate.

Baby Mop –  an outfit your baby wears which is essentially has a mop attached.

There’s a few issues we have with this. One, the floor would probably be dirty when you were planning on using this, which isn’t good for your baby to be rolling around in. Two, you shouldn’t be using your baby as a mop!

Snot Sucker Kit –  It’s smart, It’s Swedish, It’s maybe a little strange. It’s the doctor-invented nasal aspirator that actually works!

A little strange is an understatement. And we can assure you that sucking out the contents of our babies noses is right at the bottom of our list of things we want to do for our little ones.

Wearable Nail File – Baby Nails, the simple and safe to use baby nail care set that can be used from birth. The easiest way to keep your newborn’s nails short, smooth and trim.

A wearable nail file seems like something we never needed. We understand that babies nails need filing regularly but what is wrong with the traditional baby file?

Peepee Teepee – Changing a baby girl is not all glitz and glory, changing a baby boy is an even bigger story. Simply place the Peepee Teepee over his wee-wee during nappy change to avoid a sprinkling.

Now, surely this is something you can live without? A baby wipe will probably do a similar job. And does it really happen that often? This went straight on our useless list when we first saw it.

Windi – If you think your baby’s colic could be caused by trapped wind or constipation, give Windi a try! This clever catheter enables you to relieve your baby of trapped wind. Doctors will sometimes recommend using a rectal thermometer to do this, but Windi The Gaspasser is specially designed to be safer and more comfortable.

Erm .. just no!

Digital Potty – Parents can give children a comfortable and fun place to learn to use the potty with the child-friendly iPotty from CTA Digital. This potty training seat features a special stand to securely hold the iPad and safely entertain kids while they play with apps.

How long will they be sat there? And you can just put the potty in front of a TV or use a coffee table to place your tablet on. This seems like a product that solves a problem we never had.

The Babypod – Babypod is a small speaker for intravaginal use. It allows you to share music, communicate with your baby and stimulates the development of their vocalisation before birth.

We don’t need to say anything here .. so we won’t!

So there we have it. Our list of useful and useless items that we have found across the internet. We must point out that this is based on our opinion and your opinion may differ. If you have used any of these products we would love to hear from you!
